A Cry For Help

The historical document that stood out the most to me was the Florida Immigrant Coalition.  This is a coalition founded in 1998 that helps to strengthen the power and influence of immigrant communities in the state of Florida.  To me this represents the exile rebellion from being oppressed by the mobiles that shape and have a prominent influence on the city of Miami and local rules and regulations. The green that is used to color the lettering and image of Florida can be seen to represent the holy green card that immigrants in this country try so hard to obtain so that they can break free from the shackles of oppression.  What this green card does is allow these foreign exiles to work and live permanently in this country, and without it they live in fear everyday day of being kicked out of the country by government officials. At the same time, the whole premise of the “immigrant coalition” serves as a deterrent for the incoming immigrants to assimilate into the Miami lifestyle and culture.  By building stronger and more segregated groups of immigrant advocates a further polarization of those who live in the city will occur ultimately worsening the local infrastructure and sense of community in Miami.
