Miami Arena/AAA

Americans want the best things with better views. The Internet is filled with pictures of gorgeous sights and the insides of grandiose houses. Material things have always been important to the human race. Large arenas are not necessarily material things, but you are paying for the experience you are getting there, and of course, the quality and beauty of the stadium. Everybody wants to be famous, VIP, or, in popular view, socially superior. Because of the demand for a high-class, luxurious, and mainstream image, The Miami Heat moved their home court from the Miami Arena to the American Airlines Arena (AAA). They both undoubtedly serve as an architect of history because of the many legendary performers who have played in them. Though, the generic and dull scene of the Miami Arena shied people away, while the innovative and imbalanced look and location of the AAA serves as a more scenic and popular stadium.
The contemporary look of the AAA surrounded by the port of Miami is a popular attraction to tourists and residents. People can’t get enough luxury, literally. We as a society are united in the way that we all share a lifestyle of making money and spending it. Most people cannot live on the luxurious side of life, but they do what they can to come close. Seeing odd expensive architecture, furniture, and clothing online causes people to covet them. Expensive things are automatically luxurious, of course them being of higher quality as well.
The surrounding area of the AAA is full of nightlife that appeals to youth and young adults. The Miami Heat is a team that stays up to date with trends and is in the news often. The owners appealed to the youth and adults of Miami when they moved to such a vibrant location. Looking at the photo of AAA with the cruise ship and water in the back will evidently excite someone to perform or attend an event there. The sizeable building looks like a resort with a million dollar view. The Miami Arena looks inviting, but only as inviting as a very large gym can get. Though, the size and shape is impressive and, at the time, extremely modern.

Lebebvre response

This chapter analyzes the dynamic of personal identity by discussing the role and relationships of work, leisure, family, and private life. He states that life was so full of work that they were the same thing. People interacted together constantly, working together, working to have leisure together. Now we are alienated in this world of constant leisure. People work, only to dread it, and anticipate the next leisure “break” they will take. Our world today has created many tools for leisure. Sexual images give people a pleasant pause to the real world. That is, if the world we live in is even real because we have replaced unhappiness with false happiness.
His tone is pretentious and frustrated. He is showing a viewpoint that probably nobody else has ever unraveled in the manner he has.  He calls out all of society for shifting leisure into something that has created an alienated and spoiled society.

  1. I really liked the idea/thesis in this writing. The comparison between the AAA and Miami Arena makes for a good solid argument. I also like how you incorporated the area around the new stadium.
